PROJECTS
CURRENT
GOALS
At this point, we have two major goals: providing humanitarian assistance to those displaced by armed conflict and natural disasters, and to establish sustainable means of providing education. Well Burma has a wide network of collaborators on ground in Myanmar. With them, Well Burma has helped build Internally Displaced People Camps throughout Myanmar, but particularly in Karenni state– an area which faced widespread destruction as a result of the war.
Well Burma provides continuing support to these camps through financial contrinutions along with food, building supplies, and other essentials.
IDP Camp Food
Camps for Internally Displaced People are held together by volunteers and donations. This includes finding and making food for the residents. Our financial support goes in large part to stockpiling rice and other ingredients for Internally Displaced People.
The Virtual Platform
All NGM classes are held online so that children anywhere in the country can join. Burma is not in a state where building physical infrastructure is feasible yet. This is the best way for children to attend school without being in danger. Though the virtual platform has some challenges, we have adopted a project-based curriculum to enable learning, even from a distance.
The Save Karenni Project
The Karenni State of Myanmar has been dramatically impacted by the ongoing civil war and recent natural disasters. The junta government has given little support to the affected people's, even cutting off external humanitarian aid. Wai Yan Aung has led multiple initiatives to rehabilitate the people in the Karenni area during this devastating time.
Infrastructural Support
With the help of our on-ground teams, we provide infrastuctural support and building materials for the IDP camps. This includes tarps to keep out water, wood for housing, mobile internet satellites, and cars. Fundraisers play a large part in making these contributions possible.
Building Schools
One of our priorities is ensuring that the children can continue their education. We donate schoold buildings for the IDP camps so that teachers can continue their work and students can keep learning. This also extends to providing learning materials like books and pencils.
New Generation Myanmar
NGM is a solution to the ongoing education crisis in Myanmar. Since the coup, millions of children have gone without access to education for multiple years in a row. The junta government has been bombing schools, making physical education unsafe. We founded NGM so that children in Burma could continue their education and find community during these difficult times.
NGM Community
The aspect of NGM we are most proud of is the community it has created. The children are so eager to learn and make friends, while their parents maintain hope for their children's future. We appreciate our students so much for their commitment to education, even as they live through an armed conflict. The NGM community is about supporting each other, and this is our institutions most valuable contribution to Burma.
More Opportunities
On top of our K-12 Curriculum, we also offer extra English, Japanese, and Korean classes. We are hoping that these will open doors to opportunites abroad for these students. Additionally, we have GED training courses so that students may apply to universities abroad. All of these classes are not limited to the NGM K-12 students. They are open to all who would like to attend.
